2 cousins die as truck hit bike in Samastipur
Patna: A wedding celebration turned into mourning when a speeding truck rammed into a motorcycle near Gangsara turn under Sarairanjan police station area of Samastipur district on Friday night. Two cousins died on the spot, while a third sustained serious injuries.The deceased were identified as Sandeep Kumar (24), son of Kamal Mahato, and Vipin Kumar (21), son of Ram Prasad Mahato, both residents of Bulakipur in Dalsinghsarai. The injured, Vijendra Kumar (30), is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.The three cousins were on their way to attend the wedding procession of another cousin, Gopal, in Jandaha. While the rest of the family travelled in four-wheelers, the trio chose to ride a motorcycle. Vipin Kumar, who was driving, was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.According to family members, the tragedy came to light shortly after the garland exchange ceremony. “We were informed about the accident after the jaimala. We left the groom and rushed back,” said Pradeep Kumar, Sandeep’s brother.Vijendra Kumar, the lone survivor, told police that the truck hit their motorcycle from behind at high speed. Locals rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to Sadar hospital around 3am, where doctors declared Sandeep and Vipin brought dead.Confirming the incident, ASP Sanjay Pandey said, “Both victims were workers. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation is underway based on family statements.”
